Job Description

Scope of the Position

Responsible for supporting the engineering and manufacturing teams (internal / external) with product engineering needs. Manages the Product Engineering requirements to drive the company forward.

Responsibilities

Product Design support through numerous daily meetings at OEM with Body in White, Electrical, HVAC, Carpet, Assembly Plants, Tag
Provide customers & Program management with all design required information. Work with CIE Manufacturing, Tooling, as needed.
Assist sales / PM teams with new model quotes EDD, design data, etc.
Direct and line up Designers with daily requirements
Track and ensure designs are being complete on time
Work directly with customer engineering teams
Verify designs are feasibility for manufacturing
Verify designs met customer requirements / standards
Work with dimensional engineers to develop part tolerances and GD&T requirements
Verify and ensure releases of drawings and models are correct
Support OEM Builds as required
Ensure design meets all vehicle environment requirement (package)
Create a design Bill of Materials and maintain for all products. (life of program)
Create a design exploded view and maintain for all products with multiple parts. (life of program)
Maintain engineering (product design only) open issues list
Product engineer is responsible to initiate ECR process and notify PM
Engineering is responsible to create and develop DFMEAs. Set-up and organize meeting with entire team
Support Quality team to create process flow, PFMEA, Control Plan as needed
Resolve engineering issues, create was / was not / is document, track engineering changes, verify changes were implemented correctly
Support / evaluate tool tryouts for part accuracy
Product engineer is responsible for the concept design and execution of all products to be manufactured and or assembled within CIE
Prototype Phases / Tools / Builds:
- Assist build team with part manufacturing
- Create work instructions for reworks (work with quality and / or instruct quality)
- Create work instructions for vehicle builds
- Support customer shipment meetings
Ensure tooling engineers have the correct product information / data.
Evaluate part dimensions and create correction action plan. Continue multiple times until dimensions are bought off
Work with dimensional engineer to understand problem areas
Develop, quote, track and follow up DVP&R testing
Procure parts and deliver to test source
Fit and Functional evaluations and create plan for corrections. Continue multiple times until all is corrected.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (BSME OR BSEE preferred, but not required)
Experience in tooling design and manufacturing required.
5 years minimum experience in the design and development of plastic interior trim components
Strong back ground with vehicle system design and packaging
Good communication and organizational skills.
Proficient at Word, Excel, Power Point, and Microsoft Project.
Ability to manage and track multiple programs
In-depth knowledge of plastics and tooling design requirements
Knowledge of GD&T
CAD understanding (CATIA V5, UGNX , Team Center,…etc.). Preferred experience with UGNX and Teamcenter
