Scope of the Position

The Environmental Health & Safety Manager develops, implements and maintains all Environmental, Health and Safety programs for the facility to ensure a safe, healthy and accident-free work environment.  This position will have dual management responsibilities for Danville, IL and Chicago IL facilities.  The primary location will be Danville. 

  • Responsible for environmental management training, job site inspections and reporting;
  • Acts as Environmental Management Representative (EMR)  and follows ISO 14001 requirements per standard;  
  • Responsible for job site and environmental compliance inspections including hazard communication, chemical labeling, waste management, spill prevention and storm water pollution prevention through written reports, recordkeeping and submission of reports to local, state or provincial and federal regulators;
  • Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company environmental management program by all Flex-N-Gate employees and subcontractors;
  • Coordinates emergency response teams on all shifts at facility;
  • Lead and/or participate on teams with environmental, technical, management, and other team members;
  • Maintain up-to-date environmental, occupational health and safety regulatory knowledge and stay current with industry trends and best practices.
  • Responsible for the awareness, understanding, specific responsibilities and management of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Establishes and maintains environment, health and safety objectives, training, targets, legal, management programs and control procedures to ensure compliance with the legislation;
  • Drives environment, health and safety by offering counsel and motivating employees to promote awareness and provide leadership on issues of health and safety;
  • Reduces or eliminates workplace accidents/incidents. 
  • This position will have dual management responsibilities for Danville, IL and Chicago IL facilities.  The primary location will be Danville.   
  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental management, health & safety or related field from a University
  • Five years environmental, occupational health and safety experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Maintain current waste water and storm water certifications
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations, compliance and reporting
  • Thorough understanding of ISO 14001 standard requirements
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize multiple projects 
  • Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail
  • Strong analytical ability  
  • Supervisory and interpersonal skills are required
  • Troubleshooting ability is required
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills
  • Proven good presentation skills
  • Safety certification training (e.g., CRSP, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information, and MSDA) is considered a strong asset.
  • Certification under the Occupational Health & Safety Act/Regulations is considered an asset. 
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations and workers’ compensation legislation. 

Working Conditions

  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • Physical ability to lift 25lbs
  • Travel as necessary
  • This position will have dual management responsibilities for Danville, IL and Chicago IL facilities.  The primary location will be Danville.   Attending and/or conducting presentations as necessary
  • May be exposed to hazards associated with manufacturing
  • Overtime as required
